Invisalign is a very common procedure for fixing misaligned teeth. There is, however, a popular alternative to them – Metal or Ceramic Braces. So one question pops up frequently – Is Invisalign Right For Me?
In this article we will go over when Invisalign is the right choice for you and when it is not.
There are few main reasons for choosing Invisalign:
Aesthetics nowadays has become a prime demand for many patients. It is no longer restricted to public speakers and movie stars. Every single person in society, no matter what his occupation is, demands a beautiful, natural smile. Invisalign is undoubtfully an orthodontic treatment that provides better esthetics than classical metal braces.
Invisalign has lower maintenance requirements compared to traditional braces. You don’t have to think about rubber bands, and brushing your teeth is a breeze. There are fewer restrictions when it comes to eating, drinking and other daily activities.
Invisalign can handle mild to moderate orthodontic malalignments. The higher the severity of the case, the better it is to go with orthodontic braces. The reason behind that is the ability of the metal braces to physically move the misaligned tooth.
Bonding of orthodontic brackets (Braces) is always done close to the cervical line of the teeth, which means that the braces are more or less close to the tooth center. This gives them more capability to physically move the tooth with better control than Invisalign.
Invisalign can’t treat all orthodontic cases. Orthodontic corrections that demand intrusion or extrusion movements can’t be treated using Invisalign. There is also a financial aspect to Invisalign vs Metal Braces.
For cases with moderate or severe misalignment of teeth, traditional braces are a better choice. Traditional braces can apply more strength over time to your teeth, and also allow the dentist to better control the movement of the teeth. Hence, for anything other than mild or moderate alignment, braces are the way to go.
