Zirconia is the strongest crown material available today. These crowns are made from a solid block of zirconia ceramic — they’re tooth-colored, metal-free, and virtually unbreakable. Zirconia crowns are ideal for molars and back teeth that bear heavy chewing forces.
All-porcelain crowns offer the most natural-looking result. The light transmission of porcelain closely mimics natural tooth enamel, making them virtually indistinguishable from surrounding teeth. Best suited for front teeth where aesthetics matter most.
PFM crowns combine a metal substructure with a porcelain outer layer. They offer good strength with acceptable aesthetics, though a thin grey line may appear at the gum line over time as gums recede. Less commonly recommended today given the advances in zirconia.
